Ever see Little Shop of Horrors? The monster of this movie, known as Audrey 2, is a plant that craves human blood. Seymour, the shop assistant, struggles to constantly feed the plant so it doesn’t consume him. Many business owners have the same problem with their social media presence. Every platform craves content and constantly wants to be fed. Whether you are on Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok, or YouTube, the profile with the most content gets the most views and the most potential to attract eventual customers. It can be stressful coming up with content constantly to keep your audience engaged, while running your business. So, to help, here are some starter tips to help you stay organized and coming up with ideas:

Start with One Drop 🩸

In Little Shop of Horror, Seymour starts feeding Audrey 2 with one drop of his blood. Like Seymour, start with one platform. Research what the majority age demographic you want to attract, then focus on the platform where that age demographic mostly hangs out. For example, you customer base are women between the ages of 20 – 30. The platform you want to begin with is Instagram, according to Statista. Start building content and posting at least once weekly.

Keep it Fresh with Variety 🍁 🍂

Eventually, Audrey 2, feasted on other humans when becoming unsatisfied with Seymour’s one drop of blood. Like Audrey 2, your audience with become bored with just sales posts or one type of content. To keep your feed fresh and your audience hungry for more, create a variety of content, such as:

  • Short-form videos

  • Carousels

  • Photos

  • Infographics

  • Educational content

  • Checklist content

  • B2B – help tips

  • B2C – gift guides

  • Behind the scenes/the process content

  • Industry specific holiday posts

  • Live Q&A’s

Expand to Other Social Platforms 🌐

World domination, baby! Audrey 2 master plan was to take over the world, so sprouted mini versions of itself for Seymour to sell to his clients. While majority of your potential clients may be on one platform, you can build a secondary audience on other platforms. Your secondary audience may not be the client you directly want, but the family, friends, or acquittances that will recommend your business to your target audience. Repeat the research phase from step 1 but add at least two more platforms. Then, there are two approaches you can take with your additional platforms:

Option 1: Repurpose the content on your current successful platform.

Or

Option 2: Create content specifically addressing your secondary audience with calls-to-action to follow your primary platform or contact your business via call or website.

Keep a Calendar 🗓️

Seymour is consistent in feeding Audrey 2 every day after closing the plant shop. It became a part of his daily routine. With constant shifting priorities in business, it can be hard to remember incorporating time for creating and posting on social media. A helpful tool to have is a calendar that you can preplan posts. Items to schedule on your calendar are:

  • Date & Time

  • Post Topic

  • Type of Post

  • A checklist of assets needed

    • Description

    • Alt Text

    • Images or Videos

If you have time, block out time for batch creation. Creating a week’s worth of post in advance, can elevate some of the pressure to create daily.

Invest in Tools to Fight 🧰

In the theatrical ending, Audrey 2 destroys the shop, and Seymour defeats it by grabbing an exposed electrical cable in the rubble and electrocuting Audrey. Instead of waiting for social algorithms to destroy your shop, there are tools to help prevent this and defeat the monster that is social media algorithms. Invest in these items:

  • Branded Templates

  • Automatic Social Media Posters

  • Ai for images and Chat GTP for writing

    • Disclaimer: Ai is smart, but not smart enough to replace humans, make sure imagery and text are not too artificial and coincide with your branding. If your social media posts contain facts make to check for accuracy, especially if you are in the medical and political industries.

After these steps if you are still struggling to keep up with maintaining your social media presence, hire a professional! They can help you stay organized while you can focus on the parts of your business that need your attention.
